Parents who send their kids to Mater Dei are only focused on sports and hanging out with Catholic families. The school is actually owned by the Edward Bennett Williams family. They ask everyone to reclass because it's an extra year of tuition for the school, and the kids are bigger on the court/field. It is a joke academically. It's school motto is actually, "Work hard, play hard, pray hard, but most of all, be a good guy!" Seriously.
How is it an extra year of tuition for the school unless they are all repeating grades AT the school? That never happens. You are an idiot. Our son did first grade at another school then repeated 1st at MD. He’s in high school now. And yes his size and strength as well as maturity make him a starter on his IAC team. It doesn’t all even out, but keep telling yourself that. If you don’t hold your son back when you have the chance you are just biting off your nose to spite your face (or however that saying goes). Ask any coach or teacher even in any private in this area if they would prefer that your son be a year older. If they are honest with you they will tell you they LOVE older boys.
Sorry that the truth hurts. Kids at Mater Dei are generally academically below other private school/parochial kids. It's a total scam by the school because instead of entering, say, as a 7th grader, MD convinces the family to repeat 7th grade. So they are benefiting on the athletic field as well as the business office. Compare the grade/test scores of a MD kid and, say, a Sidwell kid. Night and day. LOL how you are justifying holding your son back just to get an edge in youth sports. LOL.
