Another LCMS person here. After years of discouragement and church hopping, we've been here 12 years and so thankful. We wish we had raised all our kids here. No nonsense, no random sermons, solid sound orthodox teaching, no cultishness and NO make myself happy stuff. Beautiful music and all sorts of people coming together to worship God. Nobody has had a new thought in 500 years thank God!! Seriously, we are not deconstructing here. We are grateful for the wisdom of those who came before us.
Jen referenced a beautiful book by a NUN about a schedule of prayer throughout the day- I think in "7". She seemed to get some real peace from the practice in the midst of being a busy mom. I guess I wish Jen would not just rediscover her faith, but maybe look at more structured churches, ones with a church year. The structure creates freedom to serve and worship. I feel like a lot of non-denom churches are kind of winging it unsuccessfully. Or church planters are getting into it for all the wrong reasons and egos destroy it. There is a reason certain denoms/churches have lasted hundreds of years. Schisms happen for sure but the basic structure is very sound. NGL I feel her "deconstruction" is not serving her mental health well. She needs Jesus. And a better boyfriend who loves sports and meat and her.
