Things that I find deeply offensive: The way the Catholic church treats and subjugates women. The way the Catholic church treats gays The way the Orthodox Jewish religion treats and subjugates women. The way many evangelical churches treat and subjugates women. People who eat beef People who eat pork Killing animals for religious purposes Religion I mean I can go on and on. What are you gonna do? In my opinion if people of faith spent as much time being the person their faith calls them to be as they did telling other people how to be the people they think they should be, we would have a more just and beautiful world.
The way that Islam treats and subjugates women raises zero concern?
I think I indicated that this was not an exhaustive list but yes, really any subjugation of women I find offensive. Genital mutilation of both genders is horrible. I mean the world is full of horrible people doing horrible things for what some suppose are good reasons, but again, I choose not to spend my days ranting from the rooftops about all of them. My energy is better spend to more positive ends than airing my grievances though I am a fan of Festivus.
did anyone ask you? and part of the reason why Jews are uncomfortable with this is the long history of violence towards Jewish people under the guise of Christianity. So you’re cool with telling oppressed people not to speak up?
They aren't oppressing you by having a seder. It is just in bad taste. If you want to talk abut oppressed people how about we discuss how women are the most oppressed group since the beginning of time?
Ah yes — the oppression Olympics. - A Jewish woman
Pp’s point was, let’s not claim oppression where none exists. Christian seders aren’t oppressing anyone, in fact they would seem a (misguided) attempt to reverse past persecution by empathizing, or something. You wanting to spend your Seder talking about historical oppression has little to do with it. If you want to talk about oppression, find some real, current oppression. Like the oppression of women in Judaism, certain churches, and Islam.
Or oppression of the Palestinians. That’s an issue today.
