I’m a very pissed overworked nurse (not kissed at patients, passed at healthcare and covid) and I am so deeply EXTREMELY enviously of all of you can work at home. It’s so crazy out there, right now. Horrible. Enjoy your cozy Netflix and face masks and time with kids and 2 hours of work- you are so lucky.
I admire your work and don't envy you one bit. But at my agency many of us have been working overtime at home--not a lighter schedule and extra difficult for the ones trying to manage kids' schooling too. So we don't face the dangers you do, but many of us are not exactly kicking back and watching Netflix...
Plus one and I'm a nurse working from home (a mixture of management/HR/compliance). The work is piled on and not realistic, with longer days and even more tasks added on by upper management due to expectations to overcome the 'working at home' stereotypes some have, justify our employment/worth and roles (and that of our bosses) and also due to compliance/covid related items to oversee for staff. I am short with all the kids as I have deadlines to meet and can't be interrupted and have to constantly shush or scold them. Sadly though they are all in elementary school, with DH and I both working, they have learned the jargon. My 7 year old saw my zoom reminder chime while I was quickly assisting with grading her math and she summed up her needs: "Anyway lets put a pin in this and we can workshop it later" Kid you not. We do have a lot to be thankful for but I sure hope the kids don't remember this as "that couple years Mummy was a b!tch" Due to the #s and cases we have seen at work, I've been privy to how serious this is so we are not socializing with anyone/no playdates, etc... we are taking this seriously and doing what we are supposed to do. In addition to the limitations that come with actually isolating, here are some things I have not been able to enjoy/experience as others have due to the workload situation: binge watching anything enjoying my kids getting to know my kids better improving all my kids skills/interests/education developing hobbies self improvement incorporating more workouts learning to cook better/healthier foods doing nothing organizing and cleaning my home plastic surgery or beauty treatments rearranging closets and decluttering gardening home projects me time days off from work
