We lost our dog last summer and have not gotten a new one. I think we will wait for a while. Older dogs have many more needs. I miss her younger self, but not the last year when she got up so early and had so many other issues.

I admire your work and don't envy you one bit. But at my agency many of us have been working overtime at home--not a lighter schedule and extra difficult for the ones trying to manage kids' schooling too. So we don't face the dangers you do, but many of us are not exactly kicking back and watching Netflix...

Plus one and I'm a nurse working from home (a mixture of management/HR/compliance). The work is piled on and not realistic, with longer days and even more tasks added on by upper management due to expectations to overcome the 'working at home' stereotypes some have, justify our employment/worth and roles (and that of our bosses) and also due to compliance/covid related items to oversee for staff. I am short with all the kids as I have deadlines to meet and can't be interrupted and have to constantly shush or scold them. Sadly though they are all in elementary school, with DH and I both working, they have learned the jargon. My 7 year old saw my zoom reminder chime while I was quickly assisting with grading her math and she summed up her needs: "Anyway lets put a pin in this and we can workshop it later" Kid you not. We do have a lot to be thankful for but I sure hope the kids don't remember this as "that couple years Mummy was a b!tch"

Due to the #s and cases we have seen at work, I've been privy to how serious this is so we are not socializing with anyone/no playdates, etc... we are taking this seriously and doing what we are supposed to do. In addition to the limitations that come with actually isolating, here are some things I have not been able to enjoy/experience as others have due to the workload situation:

binge watching anything
enjoying my kids
getting to know my kids better
improving all my kids skills/interests/education
developing hobbies
self improvement
incorporating more workouts
learning to cook better/healthier foods
doing nothing
organizing and cleaning my home
plastic surgery or beauty treatments
rearranging closets and decluttering
gardening
home projects
me time
days off from work

I am so happy that I have to go to work in-person five days a week (municipal government employee). I am just not a home and family-oriented person by nature, so I would lose my mind if I had to work from home all this time.

I take a nap during my lunch. I also take an hour lunch but I also log on when everyone is asleep and work.

I feel jointly jealous and relieved that I have not been able to work from home since March (I've WFH 7 days since March 2020.)

Going to the office has been good for my routine/mental health/productivity but hearing about my friends who stay in lounge clothes all day, nap, do some day drinking, go for walks during the day, etc makes me a envious.

DH is in a new job and is in the phase where he is needing to prove himself and his productivity, so he is working crazy hours from home M-F. Because of this, weekends are filled with errands, yard work, projects, that need to get done...so I am not really feeling any "benefits" of the pandemic.

Thankfully, kid is in HS so needs minimal supervision with school.

...oh...one benefit is traffic. It is awesome...though it has been picking up again.

Oh how young and naive we all were...

Speak for yourself. I knew it would get worse when Trump said it would be gone by Easter and refused to mandate a mask or a shutdown. The only thing giving me a sliver of optimism in life returning to normal is the Biden transition team.

+1. I cannot imagine having to quarantine from my children for 8+ months, or any myriad of the frustrations faced by medical teams under this circumstance. I’m deeply appreciative of you, PP. Thank you.

I'm the immediate pp whose agency has been super busy. That said:
--I am still [working] in my pajamas until noon or later far more days that I'd like to admit.
--My lunches are either 5 minutes or 2 hours, and I have no guilt about the 2 hour ones.

Doctor here, and mother of two. I’m envious too! And exhausted coming home and not even able to relax as my once career oriented husband is frustrated by homeschooling preschool and elementary schoolers. Someone actually was ranting to me and my husband about it and said when all this started and they were hailing healthcare workers as heroes- “why?, isn’t this what doctors are paid to do’? This is the risk they take.” And it kissed me off. And even though I don’t need to be hailed as a hero, I don’t expect this much from others who have chosen any profession. I’m exhausted and getting deeply depressed as we head back into a lonely and cold winter with no true plans to see loved ones. All I want to do is watch Netflix.

Thank you for your work! My dh is a doctor and I also get frustrated with people who fuss about their “exposure” when the mailman comes to their door or when they have to spend 15 minutes in a waiting room.

My old phone (an old iPhone 6S) crapped the bed last week. It’s been through a lot. I’m not fixing it again or paying to have Apple fix it. The latest problems started about a week after I had the screen and battery replaced but it was starting to be unreliable before that. My DS age 6 played on that phone a lot, just little games and learning apps and stuff and he FaceTimed his grandparents and a friend on it from time to time too. He was crushed when it stopped working. So I bought him a used iPhone 8. I told myself if my current phone ever stops working or needs repair it will be my backup phone, but in reality I just bought a phone for a 1st grader. If it wasn’t for Covid I don’t think he would have used a phone that much at all. Dammit Covid.
