Fascinating, all of this, for someone relatively new to MD. So would you draw an imaginary line from Chesapeake Beach through Ft Washington, and all points south of that in Maryland (other than the Eastern Shore) are "Southern Maryland"?
Southern MD consists of the counties of St. Marys, Calvert and Charles. I do concede that the very bottom of PG is pretty much southern-maryland-ish, and certainly used to be culturally, but PG is not southern maryland. western md consists of the three counties out west, Garrett, Allegheny and ______ (drawing a blank). The Eastern Shore is obvious enough. The rest of MD is either Baltimore metro or DC metro or the blurred area in between (looking at you, Nats fans in Laurel). Not sure where Cecil fits in though ....
The blank is Washington. And I think Cecil is considered part of the Philadelphia metro area - they are Eagles/Phillies fans there, not Ravens/O's.
