Actually, people who use it as a babysitter are probably the people claiming it is just about killing animals or no different from other games. Clearly these parents are using it as a distraction for their kids and aren't spending anytime learning about the game with the child.

I am not saying they are wrong.  Its just that Minecraft if one of those games you have to spend some time with your child, while they are at the screen, to get the most of it.  You need to monitor the videos they are watching to learn, and they will want to tell you all about their inventions.  It helps to sign them up for classes, buy books and be ready for lots of discussion on red stone circuitry.  Minecraft is not for lazy parents.  You gotta go full in.
