My son is a freshman at Gonzaga. He takes 4 honors classes and participated on two teams this year. He chose Gonzaga over Landon and Prep (and we live in MD!) He knew no one going into Gonzaga, which really worried me. But we let him make the decision. By the freshmen retreat, it all came together for him. He absolutely loves Gonzaga and is anxiously waiting for his brother to follow in his footsteps. Gonzaga is a special place and the boys get it (even as the freshmen moms worry -- well, at least, I did!) The boys love the school and are proud of the school. Freshmen should take part in the three week summer program. I have found the parents to be genuinely kind, sincere, and very welcoming. One thing my son mentioned about G is that the classes are large enough (200) so everyone is not competing against each other -- there are so many things offered -- and so many different kinds of boys -- that every boy can find his niche.
Thank you for this post PP. My DS is going to be a freshman at GZ next year! I was worried...very worried -- about him finding friends, about the commute!! DS is an introvert and not a great athlete. Very smart and great sense of humor! Something about his shadow visit clinched it for him. We also live in MD, but we have already found a senior who is driving a carpool! We are doing the summer freshman transition program and DS for the first time is excited about going to school in the summer :)
