To me, the big question here is whether or not this MS grandfathering applies to all re-assigned MSs, including, for example, Eaton. Or, as the Post article suggests, it more narrowly applies to the Ward 4 neighborhoods that were cut from Deal, namely Crestwood and 16th st heights.
Yes, there needs to be clarification on this because there could be serious impacts. For example, the Stoddert Elem northern boundary has been shifted and there are now a few blocks that will feed to Eaton rather than Stoddert. So, starting next school year, families not yet enrolled at Stoddert will now attend Eaton. However, families currently enrolled in Stoddert (and younger siblings perhaps not yet school age) are entitled to stay at Stoddert through 5th grade via grandfathering. However, if I was a Stoddert family living in those blocks rerouted to Eaton, I might seriously consider leaving Stoddert and going to Eaton instead because now I might have access to Deal. And the way the boundary decisions were written, those families DO have the choice between Stoddert (their current school) and Eaton (their new by-right school). I really hope the mayor thought through the impact of this decision.
