I think Colgate is considered to be more academic than Colby but not as much as Kenyon. We visited Colgate and it was far out of the way and rather isolated, so my D immediately knew it was not for her. The only other person we know who went to Colgate transferred after first semester We know 2 kids who went/go to Colby and both are very average students, not at all top students from her class. I don't think it has the same cache as the other two.
Colby is #15 in the US News ranking. Colgate is #22. Both accept approximately 25% of applicants. They are pretty similar except Colgate has a big Greek scene.
Colgate has fraternities and sororities, yes. But I would not call what's there a "big Greek scene."
We will have to agree to disagree. I think Colgate is very Greek.
Then you've never been to a school that is actually "very Greek."
Oh, you're right. That kind of rah, rah would be totally out of the question for me. But close to 75% of guys at Colgate are in frats. That's a significant Greek presence irrespective of school size. Frats aren't allowed at Colby. It means that the vibe is different. It might not matter at all to some, but to others it's a deal breaker. And it's an important difference between the two colleges.
