I found this site after a google search and I know its a forum for parents, but I thought I'd share my experience. I am a 47 year old female with asthma. I get the seasonal flu shot every year and have never had an adverse reaction to it. I got my seasonal vaccine in early October, no problem. I got the H1N1 injection 10 days ago and have been dealing with an increasingly worsening case of the hives and wheezing since then. I called my doctor and he said benadryl is about all you can do for it. Well, I have been taking 2 tablets every 3 hours with no relief. Then suddenly they are gone only to reappear later. I had to go to the urgent care center last night because my entire body was covered including the top of my head, face, hands, they were everywhere. My peak-flows were also dropping. They said they had never seen anything like it. Two breathing treatments and 60 mg prednisone later they released me around 8:30 pm. I looked much better and my peak flows had returned to normal. Then at 11pm another breakout. Horrible, my entire body again. I took 2 benadryl then at 1:30am I took another. Slight relief until I woke up at 3am and had to take 2 more. Woke at 7 am and took another 2 tablets. Had a great day, no break outs. Took my scheduled prednisone and was I was turning the corner. NOPE! Starting to get another breakout and I'm wheezing. Just took 2 more benadryl and now I'm off to check my peak- flow. I am going insane...... I am so sorry for all the little ones going through this. My grandson had his first shot several weeks ago with no reaction, but now I'm scared for him to get the second dose.
There's got to be some allergy there to SOMETHING. Hives are a histimine response -- allergy. To what, I have no idea, but something. And where is this Google cut-and-paste from? Seems weird...
I found this site DC urban moms and dads. This is not a cut & paste quote, but my own personal experience. I still had mild breakouts during the night and took benadryl 3 times. I understand this is a histimine response to something. I am just so frustrated with my doctor for not taking this more seriously. I can't imagine what kind of auto-immune response the H1N1 vaccine triggered in my body. The urgent care physician said if the hives came back after 10 days on prednisone then I would probably require testing of some kind. I'm on day 3 of prednisone and am still having breakouts.
