The Highland way of life, the attitude toward women, the brewing rebellion, the distrust of/animosity towards the English. It also demonstrated the complex and fraught relationship between Jamie and Dougal/the MacKenzies and showed Jamie as somewhat apart from the others in his openness towards Claire and his general sympathy for her. At this point, we are just about half way through the book, as well as half way through the season. I think they will end up cutting things from the second half of the book, but I doubt they will have to do any real damage to fit it all in the allotted time. [/quote]
