And you don't know whether it will be locking your keys and your baby in the car (which could happen whether you're planning to take the baby with you to the ATM or not), or getting violently mugged while you hold your baby at the ATM.  If we all refused to put ourselves or children in any situation, ever, that carries risk, well....wait.  There is no situation that carries no risk.  Natural gas explosions, electrical fires, choking, falling down the stairs, car crashes, tree falling on us, car jumping the curb, muggings, slipping on ice, exposure to disease, dog attack, poisonous spider bite, terrorist attack.  There is no safe place or activity.  You can choose to live a life circumscribed by fear of remote possibilities, but there are a LOT of remote possibilities.

It is a hell of a lot more dangerous to drive to the ATM than it would be to step a few feet away while your baby is buckled in the car on a cool day.  People are letting their imaginations go haywire.[/quote]
