Greetings! No, friend, you're not being snarky. My girlfriend is an American citizen, having been born and raised here. Her parents are immigrants though. So, she doesn't need a green card and such. Lol. You're right though, if such were the case that's definitely a consideration!

On being "a step up"--interesting. As proud as she is being Mexican--she explained to me that she has a strong preference for *caucasian* men. She's made remarks about really enjoying some of the attitudes I have that are in sharp contrast to conventional attitudes of Mexican men. She's expressed to me that she it is precisely some of my "white" attitudes and beliefs that draws her to me in such a strong way. She also likes my eyes, my different skin, and features. She loves that I'm educated, intelligent, and articulate.

I think her family's wonderful, and I certainly enjoy them and respect them. Perhaps she views me something of a "step up" socially, educationally, or intellectually, to an extent. The men in her family are no dummies for sure--but I'm a veteran of the Marine Corps, Irish/German, with degrees in Ancient & Medieval History and political science, focused on international relations. So, I'm definitely different from the men of her family, though they are all hard working, good men.
