Another vote against Bethesda.  While there are many liberal individuals in the area, there is also a fairly large contingent of conservatives in the area that will be hostile whether openly or covertly.  There is a large conservative Jewish community in Bethesda and CC and also a fairly active conservative Christian population.  While there will be many people open to your situation, there will also be a significant number of people who really would wish that you kept your relationship and family in the closet and some will be vocal about it.  It's just a really mixed reception there and you won't know which subgroup  you'll be interacting more with until it is too late.[/quote]

She's confusing the Conservative Jewish movement with political conservatism. Conservative rabbis perform gay marriages.

Not really no.  I am not Jewish, but I am at an event held in a synagogue in Chevy Chase weekly and I've heard a lot of anti-gay sentiment there over the course of the last few years.  Enough to be uncomfortable to a gay family moving into the area.[/quote]
