How is driving shoeless any different than driving with wet slippery (from rain) shoes.
your shoes still have a flat contact surface with large area that can control the pedal, your feet do not, you have a few discrete contact areas such as toes, ball of foot, etc. but what do I know, I only have thousands of miles of high speed driver training courses and on track experience? barefoot driving is illegal, btw, in certain states under the DMV code (or at least used to be). very stupid idea.
Good lord. Pedals are usually textured to provide more friction between the foot and the pedal. Even when they're not, a foot has more traction on a plastic pedal cover than the sole of a smooth leather dress shoe any day. If anything, you have more control without the hard, less-sensitive covering of shoes. It's like putting on gloves -- sure they give you protection, but your hands are less nimble and sensitive. And you have a problem if you're using the arch of your foot to control your car, with our without a shoe, but there's no reason to think that you're any worse off without the shoe. In fact, if you have so much "high speed driver training courses," surely you've heard of heel-and-toe shifting? If you've ever tried the technique without shoes you'd know it's much easier.
