[quote=Anonymous]OP here. Of course I try other things before physically taking the toy out of a kid's hand, but I didn't bother to explain that because it was not relevant and my post was already super-long. Bottom line, though, if the "gentler" methods don't work and my child refuses to return something he has taken from another child, I'm not going to let him just keep it, with no consequences. Ultimtaely, that's the difference between my friend and me. As I said, though, I'm not perfect, and I'm always willing to learn. What exactly is the right thing to do when you have exhausted all attempts at logical discussion, redirecting, and even threats, and your child won't give back a toy he has blatantly grabbed from another kid's hand while the other kid was playing with it, and the other kid is crying and also refuses to be redirected? Also, I get that I might come across as helicoptering, but honestly I don't get involved with toy disputes unless I saw it happen, one child is extremely upset, and it is an ongoing pattern with the same kid. I do believe in letting them try to work it out themselves as much as possible, but if I didn't get involved in that situation, aren't I just teaching my child that it's OK to take a toy from another child as long as she can get away with it?
