The emergency could be the overcrowding at WSHS. They need to remove IB from Lewis, make it all AP, and then redistrict. Then the kids that are pupil placing out need to stay and more kids move in. There will be a school within a school but a larger cohort of AP students that will make Lewis more attractive. But FCPS really seems stuck on IB, I can't figure out why. It isn't working at pretty much any HS in the County. If people want to move to private they can move to private. I think it will be a smaller number then folks here think it will be.
Edison is adding a lot of housing to its district. WSHS has zero growth. If you think long term it makes more sense to pull from the Edison area. But we have already debated this a lot and the board just keeps leaving IB at Lewis.
Well, moving Bren Mar Park out of Edison also frees up space at Edison, which could really use the room for the extra housing that’s going to go in there. They’ve already broken ground on a large new neighborhood of larger townhomes (the kind that will attract families, not 1-2 bedroom rental apartments) right down Van Dorn from Edison.
Sounds like the Bren Mar Park parents are starting to worry about the current overcrowding at West Springfield almost as much as the West Springfield parents are worried about the potential future overcrowding at Edison.
I doubt the Edison is rven on the radar of WSHS families
Total BS. West Springfield has been offering up BMP to Lewis for many months because they are so very concerned about Edison getting 2/3 as overcrowded some day as West Springfield has been for years.
Those weren't WSHS families. You can ask rhe school board.
Like you know, or like they’d respond, much less respond honestly. Nope, y’all have been offering up BMP to Lewis for a long time as an alternative to making changes that would actually put WSHS at 105% or below.
Anyone who attended any or all of the meetings knows that not a single WSHS parent had anything to do with the Bren Park school suggestion. Uniformly, the WSHS requests were: * Leave the school alone until the 740 student class of 2026 graduated so that huge anomaly doesn't taint the enrollment projections * Do a residency check. Everyone knows students who moved out of bounds during middle and elementary school that never changed their address, and just stayed at WSHS though graduation, even though they moved years earlier and should have been at other fcps or pwc high schools. * Enforce the no transfers to closed schools rule instead of ignoring it. WSHS has tons of language transfers, gatehouse quietly transferring in out of zone students from alternative high schools/students with discipline issues expelled from other schools, and allowing program and language transfers into WSHS in spite of the school being closed to transfers for years. The principals did not sign off on these transfers. They were overridden by Gatehouse * Keep neighborhoods together at WSHS, because nearly all the neighborhoods are in the same 2-3 mile radius from WSHS. The ONLY "rezone someone else" suggestion by WSHS parents at the meeting was to ADD students to Lewis, that FCPS should return Daventry back to Lewis, because rezoning them to WSHS ballooned enrollment at WSHS. Moving Daventry back to Lewis was the onlt rezoning suggestion made by WSHS parents at the meetings over the past 2 years. Not once was Bren Mar Park mentioned at any of the WSHS parents at the public meetings. If you attended all the meetings you would know this. The Bren Mar Park idea came from either Lewis parents or most likely, Gatehouse and the school board.
