this is actually something that I think we have all just realized- we read so many memoirs of survivors- especially German, dutch and French survivors and they are shocked that the Nazis othered them-- they insist that the european jewish affluent class was the defining cultural and economic jewel of  German/French/european  society and the betrayal felt by  the affluent isn't that the nazi ideology was horrific, it was that they included jewish europeans in the list of  undesirables such as gays, communists, Roma  etc.  its only when you read working class/communist/anarchist jewish memoirs or resistance fighter memoirs that you get condemnation of the nazi ideology. basically if hitler wasn't antisemitic, many affluent jewish German/French/dutch/italians would've happily participated in the war crimes against the Roma and others b/c the concepts of one race/class of people being chosen above others is normalized. that internalized sense of grievance (justified) exacerbated by an injured sense of superiority(gross)  has led to modern day Israeli politics.
