I would make a plug for U of Toronto since their Munk school (IR) is excellent and has been for years, as is their econ dept. Last year, U of T was in the news for picking up IR profs from US colleges (Yale, USC, etc.). "America's Trump-fueled Brain Drain Benefits Canada": https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/28/world/canada/trump-universities-professors-toronto.html
yes Munk at U of T is top tier globally. also Canada is poised to recruit a lot of top US brain drain talent thanks to Trump's chaos. https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaeltnietzel/2025/12/11/the-big-poach-canada-to-spend-12-billion-to-recruit-top-researchers/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/fedbudget-highered-talent-recruitment-9.6976821 https://ontherecordnews.ca/u-of-t-welcomes-3-u-s-scholars-amid-canadas-push-to-expand-its-academic-reach/
Are they still taking applications for this year or is it too late?
I think so. Jan 15 was the deadline online. But you could reach out to admissions and see if they'll still take them. FYI it's an easy application. No essays except for the smaller residential colleges that is your "home within home" within the larger UofT campus. Also, St. George is the most in demand campus downtown rather than the 2 suburban ones.
