You can’t just take off a lot and pretend you are sick. FCPS staff have to file for short term disability if they are out 5 consecutive days or 5 days in a month. Then they have to wait to be medically cleared by a doctor and the disability company before returning to work. If the teacher is out a lot then there is something wrong with them or a close family member.
Is it on the 6th consecutive day? Teachers are allowed to take 5 in a row without approval from their supervisor. Also, I’ve never heard a policy about 5 non-consecutive days in a month requiring a STD filing.
I think it's only if the days are for the same issue. For example, if you miss five days for the flu, are back for two weeks, and then miss two days for a stomach virus, I don’t think you have to file for STD. I could be wrong, though.
