Studies have shown that attending an elite college helps low income students move up in the world. As for actual social groups, it really depends on the college. Colleges that charge different rates for dorms, that permit residential Greek life, and that charge students to attend activities like concerts, indirectly encourage economic stratification. If you really are interested in attending a college that discourages economic stratification, I would look to Quaker colleges, colleges that have lottery systems by year for housing, and that have "cashless" campuses where events are free for students.
Yes, but it's from lower class/poverty to working or professional class. They're not talking lower class to upper middle class or upper class/elite except for an exceedingly rare case.
I am in the asset management business. My kid is an athlete at HYP. He introduced one of his teammates to me. Tough childhood and living circumstances, but it’s only made him stronger. Smart as a whip and profoundly hungry. He will intern with us. If he comes to us full time a few years from now, I can assure you thet he will one day be very wealthy. I stress “if he comes to us” because it’s not going to take a long time for others to figure out he’s a winner. We would be lucky to have him.
Well done. These kids are the stars. GL to getting him. I’ve done the same. Similar business.
