Ah.  See, you’re confusing “iconic” — tourist restaurants with “American” food.  There are lots of great places to eat in DC with American food that OP hasn’t been to, and probably overlooks, possibly deliberately.  Ruff N Ready serves American food.  The Hitching Post is an American restaurant. Horace and Dickie’s is an American restaurant.  Supreme Barbecue is an American restaurant.   What’s  “embarrassing “ is how limited your working definitions of “American “ food are. [/quote]
