Yet another parent who knows nothing about swimming.  According to our rep, there was one false start the entire meet.  Starters can't control whether swimmers are properly set.  If you don't like the starter, why don't you spend the hours it takes to get certified, get the practice starts in, and then convince your division coordinator to appoint you.  Otherwise, you should STFU and stop maligning volunteers who are only trying to give every kid a fair start.  You are part of the reason teams have trouble finding volunteers....[/quote]

Exactly. The criticism of the CB starter is way off mark and made by people who clearly don't understand a thing about real swimming or officiating. The CB starter is one of the most experienced starters out there and officiates at the highest-level PVS championship meets. Standing the field is REQUIRED if there are fidgety kids or kids moving at the start. That's the rule. The reason is moving at the start conveys a starting advantage, and it's also not fair to the kids who are already set to make them wait or hold a position just so the fidgety kid in the heat can get set. The starter was doing his job as he should. If your young or inexperienced kid was thrown, then you or your coaches need to do a better job preparing the kids. This is the sport.[/quote]
