Our all star qualifier meet was by age group, not division. Each weeknight leading up to all stars, a different age group had their meet. So Sunday night was 8 and unders, Monday was 9-10, etc. Anyone who wanted to sign up for the qualifier meet could do so, with a limit on the number of events per swimmer (2? 3?). The top 16 or 18 would be in all stars that Saturday. That meant it was totally fine to swim at the qualifier meet, but skip all stars. The all stars spot would just go to the next person on the list.

And for a little perspective... I will note again that I do not remember which meet it was that created the conflict. Nor do I remember what place I got at all stars in any given year, or how I did at that club meet. You know what I do remember well? The kickass relay I got to be a part of every other year in summer league; the really good Italian water ice at the pool that hosted all stars every year; when our team beat our rival to win the league championship; the teen coaches who I thought were so cool when I was younger. I am proud of what I achieved in club and later D1 college swimming. But my core memories, the ones that give me warm and fuzzies, are from summer league.[/quote]
