DE beaches are too expensive they only get the people who want a quick but expensive trip and are too lazy to go further south for cheaper but it takes longer to get there. Money wise it's not a good deal at all.
Not everyone has time. And it is not that expensive during week. Last time I went was three nights during week. Left early first date, left after lunch last day. So I had four days on the beach for three nights in hotel. When I went NC for three days I only got two days on beach the drive ate up all of first day and last day. My hidden secret place for those who want at a good price is the Hampton Maid in Southampton. Lovel motel with pool and great breakfast in Southhampton. There breakfast is amazing farm style Martha Stewart vibe. It is extremely expensive on Weekend and three day weekends. But if you book a Monday to Thursday vacation its is great price. Even Sunday night and Thursday night get a bit pricey in Hamptons as many stay an extra day. I rent on Monday to Thursday trip and loved it. Also missed most of traffic.
