Not a great beach but there's always Key West.

That isn't cheaper!!

I hope increasing prices in Rehoboth will keep the riff raff away. Let the trashy types be priced out.

Dirty Myrtle for the win.

Not everyone has time. And it is not that expensive during week. Last time I went was three nights during week. Left early first date, left after lunch last day. So I had four days on the beach for three nights in hotel. When I went NC for three days I only got two days on beach the drive ate up all of first day and last day.

My hidden secret place for those who want at a good price is the Hampton Maid in Southampton. Lovel motel with pool and great breakfast in Southhampton. There breakfast is amazing farm style Martha Stewart vibe. It is extremely expensive on Weekend and three day weekends. But if you book a Monday to Thursday vacation its is great price. Even Sunday night and Thursday night get a bit pricey in Hamptons as many stay an extra day.

I rent on Monday to Thursday trip and loved it. Also missed most of traffic.

Three bedroom/three bath condo about 10 minutes from the beach (on the golf course) is around $1000 for 5 nights. It's worth driving south for a cheaper vacation. It's probably 4 tanks of gas for us (around $140).

10 minutes from the beach is cheap in Rehoboth too. The problem is that ten minutes from the beach is not much fun - you still have to pack up all your stuff, deal with cranky kids, drive to the beach, find a place to park - it’s a hassle. You need to be within a block or two of the beach - otherwise, what’s the point?

I don’t know where PP is going in SC…because you can be just three blocks from the beach in many parts of NC and SC and only pay $1000 for 5 nights for a house. It sound like they are staying at a resort on a golf course with pools and other activities?

Problem with Rehoboth is 10 minutes from the beach which is call it 10 miles West…sucks. It’s not Hilton Head with many nice resort communities.

It’s why Rehoboth proper carries such a premium. Avoiding all the traffic and parking is worth it to people and there are no alternatives for a fancy golf resort (which often may have a beach club that guests can use where you can park for free).

Pawleys Island in SC. Quiet, not crowded. If you want some excitement, go to Charleston or Myrtle Beach. We stay on a golf course with a few pools because it’s quiet. We actually don’t golf but we like the peace and quiet.

Umbrellas are twenty a day to rent, chairs are 10. Small crap like funland charging parents the same 3 tickets to stand in the Carousel as if they were a rider if they are holding their toddler on a horse (parents standing used to be free.) A drink is 4.50 and no free refills pretty much across the board. Parking is now 4.50 an hour. A basic soft serve cone is 7.00

Maybe they are thinking they can charge more and the crowds will thin out and it will be more enjoyable for everyone but damnnnnnn it's not an inexpensive few day excursion anymore

Those beach chair girls in their thong bikinis don’t come cheap!

You are just spoiled and lazy. Make your kids help carrying their own stuff.

Right, because the point of going on vacation and to work hard and fight with your children about their regimen.

NP here. From a very young age (4/5 I think) my kids have had their own backpack for pool/beach. In it they have their towel, goggles, water bottle, any toys they wanted, and a snack. My kids were responsible for putting their goggles back in the front pocket of their backpack immediately when they got back to the chairs. It took constant reminders when they first summer, but after that, they were on their own. Consequently, they’ve never lost their goggles (and they are swim team kids, so they spend a lot of time at the pool). They don’t lose their towels or water bottles either and yes one of them has adhd. I don’t think giving kids responsibility for their things has to be a fight. Start young and make it an expectation for your family. Then when you go to the beach (which we do once a year) parents don’t have to lug as much AND your kids have personal responsibility for their things. It’s a win win in my opinion!

This is why we decided to take a cruise this year instead of Rehoboth. No dishes, no lugging crap up and down the avenue, AND kids clubs.
