We've been going to the beach in SC for the years and the price has held steady. Three bedroom/three bath condo about 10 minutes from the beach (on the golf course) is around $1000 for 5 nights. It's worth driving south for a cheaper vacation. It's probably 4 tanks of gas for us (around $140).
10 minutes from the beach is cheap in Rehoboth too. The problem is that ten minutes from the beach is not much fun - you still have to pack up all your stuff, deal with cranky kids, drive to the beach, find a place to park - it’s a hassle. You need to be within a block or two of the beach - otherwise, what’s the point?
I don’t know where PP is going in SC…because you can be just three blocks from the beach in many parts of NC and SC and only pay $1000 for 5 nights for a house. It sound like they are staying at a resort on a golf course with pools and other activities? Problem with Rehoboth is 10 minutes from the beach which is call it 10 miles West…sucks. It’s not Hilton Head with many nice resort communities. It’s why Rehoboth proper carries such a premium. Avoiding all the traffic and parking is worth it to people and there are no alternatives for a fancy golf resort (which often may have a beach club that guests can use where you can park for free).
Pawleys Island in SC. Quiet, not crowded. If you want some excitement, go to Charleston or Myrtle Beach. We stay on a golf course with a few pools because it’s quiet. We actually don’t golf but we like the peace and quiet.
