Don’t feel bad for them! Every iota of information in the world is at our fingertips; there is absolutely no excuse for ignorance, even belonging to a cult of stupidity.
I know many small and mid-size business owners who export goods from both China and EU, and am one of them. Most of us know very well who pay the tariffs. In fact, I got my first 'reciprocal'* tariff bill yesterday. Unfortunately, my lack of ignorance does not make the situation any better. Guess I'm lucky that my goods come from EU, so my product costs went up 'only' by 10/20% overnight. That amount I will add to the end price and hope that the customers will pay the higher price. If I'd be importing from China, guess I would have to close my small business, as I don't think customers would swallow that price change for most products. * It actually says that on the bill. If you repeat the lie enough times, plenty of people will believe it.
The problem is that would lower the value of your business because you make the same dollar amount profit as before, but at a higher cost of goods. This actually means your profit is lower—the cost to make the same money is more. You need to charge more than the tariff
