I feel they have high cutoff scores for low Farms middle school and low cutoff scores for high farms middle school. So that’s why lots of 280 and 290 kids get surprised [/quote]

That's the procedure for the ES and MS magnets but not HS.

Ok, now follow that thread for a minute. Who is the most likely to know about those services, and feel free to access them, and then to challenge them if they disagree?

Different poster but it’s well known that wealthy white patents are the ones that demand their kids get special treatment though a “diagnosis”. My own kid is wise enough to this that he’s noticed the racial distinctions between those who get extra time on tests - it’s the white kids with pushy parents.[/quote]

I reviewed some data on Wheaton HS vs. Whitman HS.

Wheaton HS has a FARM rate of about 60% (HI around 60%) and a Special Education rate of approximately 10%.  
Whitman HS, on the other hand, has a FARM rate of less than 5% (WH around 60%) and a similar Special Education rate of about 10%.

I also looked into a few other high schools, and while the FARM rates vary, most schools seem to have around 10% of students in Special Education.

It doesn't seem like the White students around your child are purposely getting an IEP or 504 just to receive extra time on tests. Their parents may appear to be more pushy, but that's likely because having a child with ADHD or ASD naturally makes parents more involved and attentive to their needs.[/quote]
