Serious question what do you want the tall person to do in this situation.  What would make them considerate and polite?  Not talking about the 5-9 person in OP's post who yes was probably being a bit of a jerk.

Of course they do. It happens all the time. You don’t have to like it but you do have to accept it if you fly economy. Pout all you want. But I’m 5’5” 115lbs and my seat costs the same as my 6’4” 225lb husband. That is just the way the world works. His pants cost the same too even though it’s easily double the thread and fabric.
