Of course, there is something you can do. You can have the flight attendant tell him to put his knees down and treat him like the toddler he is.
Flight attendants are not going to do this. And there is no “down.” That is just where the knees are. Maybe not on a 5’9” person like in the OP. But on a 6’2”+ person? That is just where the knees are and no FA is going to say something about that. Any more than they are going to call out a fat person. Stay mad.
If you don't fit in the seat, buy a bigger one or don't fly. Stay mad right back.
If your lower back is so jacked up you can't risk being jostled at all, buy a bigger seat or don't fly.
I'm not OP. You don't get to jostle me and tell me to like it you moron.
No one is asking you to like it. People are saying to get a handle on yourself and show some grace in circumstances that are yes, challenging. Some of you are just such gross humans.
I show grace to polite, considerate people. Ass88ls get what they dish out.
Serious question what do you want the tall person to do in this situation. What would make them considerate and polite? Not talking about the 5-9 person in OP's post who yes was probably being a bit of a jerk.
My son is 6-5 and I'm not thrilled about him being out in the world with aggressive people like this when trying to fly. He's not going to be able to fly first class his whole life.
No one is aggressive. We are indeed talking about an inconsiderate 5.9 person who didn't have to have his knees in OP's seat. Nuance in situations matters. If your son can't fit in the seat he bought he should absolutely take it up with the airline and not make it a problem of an unsuspecting person in front of him. But I blame the airlines and not your son, obviously. The seats are too small.
So he should take it up with the airline (useless) and in your mind still never fly.
Why do you think he is entitled to fly on top of other people?
I was trying to have a genuine conversation. Nevermind.
No, you weren't. How do you propose your son flies without inconveniencing unsuspecting travelers around him? Or why do you think he is entitled to that?
DP here. No one is making you fly. Oversized people are just less whiny about being uncomfortable than you are. Sizism is still a problem that needs conquering.
No one is making me fly, true. The difference is that when I fly I don't need to take up space reserved and paid for by others. When you pay for my ticket too then you get to tell me about sizism![]()

The world doesn’t work the way you wish it did. I’m not sure what to tell you. It must be a frustrating existence.
Another entitled a$$ole who thinks he gets to just take up space paid for by others. I will gladly teach you a lesson every time you fly since your parents didn't.

+1. Thank you. People think it’s ok to harass others because of their height. Just like people think it’s okay to make jokes about people being too thin, because hey, at least they aren’t fat! None of it is okay. If you don’t want to share space with others, buy your own private plane or drive. Or just deal, like the rest of us.
Oh brother. You are about as dumb as people can get. So a person puts his knees into the seat and intentionally bothers another passenger but in your logic HE is the one being harrassed????? No, people who fit in the seats should fly. If you don't fit buy a different seat, or drive. You don't get to take up more space than you paid for buttercup.
Of course they do. It happens all the time. You don’t have to like it but you do have to accept it if you fly economy. Pout all you want. But I’m 5’5” 115lbs and my seat costs the same as my 6’4” 225lb husband. That is just the way the world works. His pants cost the same too even though it’s easily double the thread and fabric. That’s just life.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA entitlement at its best. Your husband will most certainly not encroach into my space. I can guarantee you that. He is welcome to put his legs in your lap though.
He could not care less if his knees are touching the seat in front of him. If you recline, you will only feel it more. But that is your right. Enjoy the flight.
And I will. It is my right to do so since I paid for the seat and got to use it the way it was intended.
