The books and the television series.

I love those books and my kids have read them many times. they are actually quite nuanced--the parents discuss the expression "only good indian is a dead Indian" and Pa thinks its wrong. They also have a black doctor treat Mary and she doesnt actually say he is black but the original illustrations show it (this is sooooo much better than the books that identify each black character as Black but dont identify the race of the other characters, default = white)

about 5/8 years ago when my kids where younger they still read them in the charter montessori classrooms anyways. [/quote]
