that is so stupid! why wouldnt they just have her make ftiends with a black family (minstrel show aside.. i have the original books and the dr who treated Mary was black and they dont really say anything anti-black). the should do an Anne with an E style reboot. Speaking of which- there are more racial slurs in LM montgomery's works than in Laura Ingalls wilders!!

I cannt belive people are complaining that she treated her father with respect and didnt air teh family's dirty laundry. She also didnt put in her little brothers deatj which was devestatong for them b?c she didnt think it was appropriate for such young kids. There is also Prairi lotus which we absolutely LOVED - its a book in the spirit if the little house books but writen by someone with Chinese ancestory which is also accurate for the times and wholesome at the same time. The betsy tacy books are also very good reading. and the moffats

I love those books and my kids have read them many times. they are actually quite nuanced--the parents discuss the expression "only good indian is a dead Indian" and Pa thinks its wrong. They also have a black doctor treat Mary and she doesnt actually say he is black but the original illustrations show it (this is sooooo much better than the books that identify each black character as Black but dont identify the race of the other characters, default = white)

about 5/8 years ago when my kids where younger they still read them in the charter montessori classrooms anyways.

The Cosby Show (and A Different World) were amazing, positive, entertaining shows that practically raised a generation of kids.

I was reading an article about one of the supporting actors who lost a big source of income when the show was canceled. All of the actors, not just Bill Cosby, lost their residuals. It was a steady stream of income for them, and it all disappeared when hollywood cancelled Bill Cosby.

I hope the show eventually returns to TV.

As an immigrant, the John Wayne movies with images of all-white cowboys is what got exported to my home country, so that’s what everyone thinks of when they think “cowboy.”
