They did but it was either 2013-2014 so you missed it. We had a polar vortex with sub zero temps and wind and the buses couldn’t start in those temps, nor did they want kids out in it . [/quote] I remember this. They could not get the busses started for 2 days. And it was NOT just FCPS, it was every district that were experiencing the extreme cold. Temps were in single digits with negative wind chills. Our buses are built(engines) differently than those in Northern US.[/quote]

Another witness that yes FCPS has closed for cold in our lifetimes.

There was much talk about kids waiting in the dark, likely without proper gear.  Sure some older kids don't even have coats because they just layer thermals and sweatshirts.  Even most kids who surely have coats and gloves don't have gear rated for such low temperatures.  [b]Your gloves that keep you warm at 36 degrees aren't going to touch the cold caused by 10 degrees.[/b][/quote]

That’s a little dramatic. They kids will be fine for short periods. The busses, however, are another thing.
