It looks like she was a close family friend.   I think the parents could have done more, but I can also see how they did not know how much she was involved with and controlling him until it was too late.

What can a parent realistically do if their 18 year old son takes someone they do not like to Prom?  Especially when they are not dependent on the parents for money due to a Duke basketball scholarship.

He was 17 when they went to prom, and she posted that they'd been together for 1 year at that point. So he was 16 when they started dating. His parents definitely should have done [i]something[/i]. [/quote]
