If she graduated from college in 2018, which is 6 years ago, that would probably make her 27-28 years old.
I am no Duke fan whatsoever, but this story is really sad and I feel really bad for him. No matter what the truth actually is, he loses. If the rumors of her grooming him are true and that she really did alienate him from his family and convinced him to get engaged (he's only 20!) that is awful. If the truth is that his family sucks and she was the only functional person around and was right to get him to set boundaries, that also sucks (it means his twin brother, other brother, parents, etc are bad). Whatever it is, the facts still remain they were involved when he was in high school (possibly even middle school since they've known each other that long, he was 12 when she graduated from high school).
I went to another ACC school and have watched him play for the last 2 years. I was surprised he declared for the draft and felt he needed at least 1 more college year. He's not a bad player, but he is very immature. This guy was only at the draft with his girlfriend. No family. I blame Duke for not better protecting him, at least on draft night. A program like that would have had him surrounded by people to make sure he was well represented at the draft. Just sad sad sad all around.

The parents seem to be shifting the blame but he was 12 when she came into his life as a full-grown adult. From ages 12-17, what were the parents doing? C'mon, man!
They allowed a predator into his life and are now upset about being cutoff right when the $$$ is about to flow. They are as bad as she is!
It looks like she was a close family friend. I think the parents could have done more, but I can also see how they did not know how much she was involved with and controlling him until it was too late.
What can a parent realistically do if their 18 year old son takes someone they do not like to Prom? Especially when they are not dependent on the parents for money due to a Duke basketball scholarship.
He apparently wrote the goodbye message to his family email two years ago, right around the time Catilin and he attended prom together.
He was 17 when they went to prom, and she posted that they'd been together for 1 year at that point. So he was 16 when they started dating. His parents definitely should have done something.

POV: My family was extremely abusive but manage to look very sympathetic to outsiders when trying to break the NC I put in place. MYOB with this stuff.
Agreed. And they could have very easily gotten together when he was 18.
They did not. Are you even reading? What is wrong with the people defending this?
No one knows the exact age they got together or things became romantic. A lot of this is salacious conjecture, probably from many sports fans addicted to MILF and stepmother porn
She went to his HS prom. They were definitely together before he was of legal age. She has been grooming him for years. His family has been speaking out.
They've been together since he was 14. There are pictures online that prove it. It's gross.
The only picture I can find is one where they are labeled cousins and are with his brothers. It’s so bizarre.

I didn’t think Mormons could live together before marriage?
Their parents are family friends, so they grew up pretty close. Her dad was in the military so they ended up moving away so she wasn’t in his life for a while. She popped back up his senior year of high school when he got national recognition (#5) and turned 18… she was 24 or 25 at the time. Started dating, went to prom together, and at this same time her parents (big Mormons) told Kyle’s that “she is good for him and would take good care of him at Duke. Keep him out of drugs, keep him from partying, etc.” His parents immediately got a red flag given the timing of her coming back in his life and given the things they were saying.
She bought a house next to dukes campus, walked with him to and from every class, he slept at her house and spent every moment there, she wouldn’t let him hangout with teammates or attend team activities. She went to EVERY game, home and away. Told him that his family was bad for him, that they were holding him back, they were against her, etc. So he cut everyone off, twin brother included all last year before march madness of his freshman year.
He gave all tickets to her, her friends and her family.

WTF. The same jersey number as Karl Malone #32. Malone played for the Utah Jazz and infamously had a child with a 13 year old girl while in college. He was never prosecuted for the rape or faced any repercussions.
How is Malone's jersey number not retired by the Jazz?!?!

According to the internet, Caitlin’s parents are Amanda and Kevin Hutchinson.
Kyle’s parents are Rebecca and David Filipowski. His mom’s family had a good deal of information easily available online. His mom played college basketball and her maiden name was Rebecca Hagerdon. Two of her siblings (Kyle’s aunt annd uncle) also played college basketball. Randall Hagerdon, played basketball at Boston College, and Beverly Hagerdon, played at Dartmouth from 1984-88.
Kyle is one of four brothers. Daniel (the oldest) is the one speaking out on X. Daniel seems to be in the Sports Management field, which is interesting. Kyle’s twin brother Matt plays basketball for Harvard.
If they are related, it seems unlikely they are related on his mom’s side. This is what I found out with 15 mins of Googling in the camp carpool line, I’m sure there are plenty of internet sluths that will get to the bottom of this soon.
Taylor (one of the brothers) confirmed that they are not related. The parents grew up together and thus the families were close. Looks like referred to each other as “cousins” because of the close family relationships.
