Grace Rivera Oven has been very vocal about wanting to hire principals who are demographic matches for their school communities. She has even voted against candidates for this reason.
I understand and know the value of promoting diverse candidates that reflect the changing demographics of our county, but it's a horrible trend that HR and board members are selecting candidates - or rejecting candidates - based on race. Pick the best person for the job, period.
You are assuming they are rejecting better persons. Parents and community are include in the interview process.
Parent/community involvement in interviews is strictly window-dressing. The questions are tightly controlled and the outcome of the interview process is always pre-determined by the supervising staff. I know; I have been involved in several interview processes. And before you ask why I kept doing it, I'll tell you: because I wanted to gain insight as to what was actually going on.
