I think she says that to avoid scrutiny of the matter and Nicole knows the drill.
She will
Keep her mouth shut and not say anything against the CoS if they agree not to drag her name through the mud in return. She has lost them to the cult and there is nothing she can do but she always tells them the door is open and she wants to be in their lives however they see to make it work.

I don't think she's lying they have some type of relationship but it's definitely nothing meaningful. I do agree with you that accepted the consequences of getting the kids involved in that cult. They will always see her separately from them. it is what it is. [/quote]
