It's very rare for students who are not LDS to go to BYU (only about 1% students are not LDS.)
I was thinking the same thing so I was incredibly surprised to see so many people from my kid's school committing to BYU. I didn't think that there were so many LDS families around here.
You are mistaken. The truth is that the LDS community is very aware of the bias against them in “this area” so LDS kids tend to lay low about their status as church members. But BYU is a great school and will be a wonderful opportunity for those kids!
There is no bias against mormons. Most people don't even know anything about mormons. Those that do generally think mormons are very nice people. They might not understand how mormons can believe some of the stuff they do, but I don't think anyone holds that against them.
LOL. I moved to an area with a lot of Mormons as a young adult. Before I knew any Mormons I was like...they're odd. Then I started to get to know them a bit and I'm like...oh, they're so nice! Very family oriented! Then I actually started learning about their beliefs and we were kind of back in square one. Wait...they really believe this stuff? I still think you're very nice, and good neighbors, but man oh man.
