I don’t find Mormons to be all that nice. I have family that are Mormon but they left the religion after learning about the dark side.

Most of us see the clean cut, friendly people and think that’s great.

I have also lived among Mormons and they won’t include you unless they think you will convert. We chose to move because there were not many non-Mormons in that area.

I’ve been told by a Mormon that I can’t stay in a hotel. We were not married so they sent us on our way down a dark road in Utah. I guess that’s a Joseph Smith creed. Send the unmarried into darkness.

My friend’s mom could not get a job in Utah until she found a national non-Mormon company to hire her.

My friend had to move out of Utah. His Mormon neighbors would not speak to him.

While there are exceptions, they are not truly nice people.

I’ve been to church, and it’s highly patriarchal.

It depends on the clearance level, but drug test, polygraph, and clean criminal record. There are plenty of young people who qualify (and plenty who don't) but cloistered Mormons who have been on a mission can reliably qualify for a clearance.

OP here - yeah, honestly I had no idea that there were so many Mormons at McLean High School (nothing wrong with it, but I had no idea). So I thought that maybe BYU was the new up and coming school (kind of like how a lot of the SEC schools became super popular over the last few years).

Yes. I would say they are...friendly...but there can definitely be a dark side of dysfunction under the veneer of wholesomeness/friendliness.

You are mistaken.
The truth is that the LDS community is very aware of the bias against them in “this area” so LDS kids tend to lay low about their status as church members.
But BYU is a great school and will be a wonderful opportunity for those kids!

There is no bias against mormons. Most people don't even know anything about mormons. Those that do generally think mormons are very nice people. They might not understand how mormons can believe some of the stuff they do, but I don't think anyone holds that against them.

I moved to an area with a lot of Mormons as a young adult. Before I knew any Mormons I was like...they're odd. Then I started to get to know them a bit and I'm like...oh, they're so nice! Very family oriented! Then I actually started learning about their beliefs and we were kind of back in square one. Wait...they really believe this stuff? I still think you're very nice, and good neighbors, but man oh man.
