We accepted a lottery slot (not HB, different school), did not respond by deadline assuming they would be removed because that was the instruction, and APS contacted us THREE MONTHS later to find out if we were taking slot. They aren’t exactly geniuses running this thing. And 100% there are admin transfers to HB for “horrible bullying” and whatever else APS feels like doing. It’s MADDENING. Why would child be transferred to HB instead of different neighborhood school?!? I am not for bullying obviously.
I'm sure there have been some but some people act like it's rampant and it's not. People blab in Arlington
Maybe not rampant, but enough to know there is room for corruption and favors.
But not much room, tbh. My kid has been at HB for a couple of years and the only time he has reported a new student joining his grade has correlated with a student leaving. And that has happened twice. So even if the fix is in, which it’s not (those kids both reported getting off a waitlist!), you’re talking at most a couple of kids out of thousands who somehow benefit from this rampant corruption and favor trading.
