They can and do impose limits. These are private schools. They enforce it by not releasing transcripts to additional schools beyond the limit they set. Parents who don’t like it can choose to enroll their kids elsewhere, nobody is forcing them to attend these private schools. The limits can be beneficial, as the college counseling is very individualized and they take time to curate a realistic application list for each student. Students don’t need to apply to 20 schools just because that’s what fits in the Common App.[/quote]

I'm sure the quality of the counseling is high at some of these private schools, but I would be absolutely livid if my kid's school refused to release a transcript at our request. That level of control is about the school, not the student. There are legitimate reasons to apply to more than 10 schools. I can't believe that after spending all that money, parents are putting up with that. [/quote]
