But do you not have a day job?  Even if your day job ends by 4 pm or so—that would be a very long day.  Wouldn’t it be hard to be alert and cheery after working 13+ hours straight?

OP said "often" and that it's for sporting events.  I guess I was assuming it would be 2-3 times during the week and at least one weekend day.
I have a kid in high school right now I'd be really sad to miss dinner with him frequently, miss things like games, school plays, music performances, etc.   Unless I was really desperate for money to put a roof over our head and food on the table, it just wouldn't be worth it.[/quote]
