I think it's fine if the FBI alerts social media companies of known foreign influence campaigns. It's not fine for the FBI to learn about people's lives and verify information about their lives to social media companies. If you really think it through, the FBI handled that interaction completely appropriately. "Yes, the laptop is real" -- eg it's not a foreign influence campaign-- "and no further comment."  That's perfect IMO. [/quote]

Did you really just say the bolded? You do realize that the Biden administration has been accused of just that - government interference with SM to censor free speech.  And Twitter removed any posts that said the laptop was real.

If my laptop were found at a computer repair shop, would it make the front page?  No.  But if it belongs to the child of a political opponent (do you remember when they were off limits?), then it becomes newsworthy?   Do you realize how unethical you sound?[/quote]
