I will bite. My student had no interest in applying so no acceptance or rejection here. It is not getting the strivers hellbent on Harvard. I researched it ahead of my DD looking at schools, one of my DD’s best friends in in EA (probably won’t go b/c not enough merit) so my DD is probably in range. The coop program is either a huge sell or a huge turnoff. All kids hear about is the need to get internships, this is a huge part of the program. It has some really interesting majors and I have heard good things about the tour from friends. I am from the west coast and have only been out here 28 years so probably not as indoctrinated into the NEU is a commuter school mindset. Boston is a great town. Kids have different priorities and that is the problem with the rankings in the first place. I am firmly in the camp of NEU is not elite, but I am also firmly in the camp of it sounds like a great school for a lot of students.
What kind of morons associate a T50 school with insane acceptance rate to a commuter school.
First - PP said they were NOT in the camp that considered Northeastern as a commuter school. Second - Northeastern was VERY MUCH a commuter school up into the 90's (when many current parents were in school in Boston) so it's not some far fetched insult. Northeastern has changed a lot over time. I'm not a Northeastern hater and think it's a great option for the right kid. The same could be said for other schools are - across the range of selectivity spectrum and the prestige spectrum. But I also lived in Boston at a time when Northeaster was more of a commuter population and it's amazing what they have done for their academic programs over time. The former- commuter doesn't have to be an insult, it's just fact. That said - I am not a huge fan of their admissions practices or doling kids across campuses across the US and world. (I don't know, maybe that's great for some people too? But my kids wouldn't want that sort of setup)
UPenn used to have 70% acceptance rate, and it invented ED. So what, totally irrelevant.
