The Charles Allen clip. I hear it not as concern for the shooter, but the the shorter was agitated and I’m a crisis. That’s just facts but sympathy. We do need to address the root cause - person I’m a mental health crises with acres to guns. Never heard of Charles Allen before today but he’s not a person to blame here. Blame lax gun laws (a uniquely American issue) and lack of mental health services.
I’d never heard of him either. I’m a lifelong dem and long term dc resident. I find his language in the clip troubling. Why does he refer to the murdered WMATA employee as “loss of life” as if it’s a passive thing, like a misplaced wallet? It would make more sense to put equal attention on the systemic mental health failure and the systemic security failure (and the person) who shot and injured people and shot and killed the wmata employee. Why is it not ok to say this?
I didn’t find his language to be passive, uncaring or disrespectful. Just my opinion. I’m the poster you responded to.
Agree. The reality here is the shooter was mentally ill, and we have a nation where guns are easy to access. Those are real problems that the whole nation needs to address. Even if we had police presence out the wazoo, there would have been victims in this case.
False. If the shooter did not have easy access to guns there would have been zero victims.
It is absolutely bonkers to just lay this at the feet of guns and blame “society”. This individual was intent on doing people harm. If he wasn’t a shooter he would have been a stabber. Absolute joke mindset.
It takes longer to stab people and requires more strength and energy. I hope you understand now.
how long does it take to shove someone onto the tracks ?
or to prepare and throw a few fun Molotov cocktails
