This is DCUM…selective outrage.  Cruising destroys the environment, but going on multiple international flights annually is OK for the earth’s wellbeing.  These are the same “environmentalists” that live in 5,000+ square foot homes.[/quote]

No, no selective outrage. The question is why cruising is considered trashy. Flights of course are also a big problem for the environment, that's why I dont' fly anymore. Have no relatives outside the US, so it's possible for me. But cruising is much worse for the einvironment than flights. Sorry to disturb your life in a fairy tale.

Those articles make endless assumptions in order to try to come to a comparison, but the assumptions may or may not be valid. Also, there are usually tradeoffs with which option is supposedly "worse," like is it worse to have emissions on the ocean, or way up high where the effects of greenhouse emissions are much more pronounced.

Basically, anything you do is bad for the environment. You can't be flying to your destination and saying that cruising is somehow worse. [/quote]
