[quote=Anonymous]Health class has always been ridiculous. In 7th grade DS had an anti-vax teacher. In DD’s health class, the teacher showed videos produced by Christian Scientists about alcohol and substance abuse. One vignette showed a girl talking about how she wished she didn’t drink because her drinking caused her to get raped. Post-video discussion facilitated by the male health teacher involved a number of boys extensively discussing why it was the girls fault she got raped because she chose to drink. In another year’s health class, DS was given a questionnaire for discussion that asked about lifetime adverse events experienced - very high on the list of traumas was ….. mother returning work (no mention anywhere about how a father’s employment could be traumatizing). I can’t even begin to unpack that misogyny. Then there's the unit on healthy social media use which is mostly focused on telling girls not to send revealing pictures of themselves to boys. MCPS health class is always terrible. Kids don’t even learn about major forms of birth control other than condoms. They definitely don’t learn about over the counter availability if the morning after pill nor about abortion nor about miscarriage and pregnancy complications (which explains a whole lot about why we bow have ridiculous abortion laws that are forcing women to deliver anencephalic babies).
