white dd 1550, 4.0 (private school) national award in EC sport, is sporty (polo) and arty (has a portfolio) and academic Pomona-denied Haverford- WL Scripps-WL Bowdoin-WL but ACCEPTED UCLA and Santa Clara - accepted with $11k + merit for 4 years It's all become a crapshoot if you are white
The vast majority of athlete spots go to white students, primarily from affluent backgrounds. Not the sports that everyone thinks of like football, basketball, soccer and LAX but tennis, water polo, swimming, hockey, field hockey, fencing, etc. why do you think so many affluent white families are obsessed with their kids sports. It is an in at many colleges, especially the ones on this list. Read who gets in and why, particularly the information on how many slots are filled by white athletes at Amherst—it’s not URMs filling all the spots. Large percentage go to white athletes.
Yes, blame the spots reserved for athletes if you’re going to be bitter about a high achieving student being denied. Admission to highly selective private schools may be a crapshoot if you white, but life is a crapshoot in this society if you are not white.
